Another day, another soup.
Ryan’s grandparent’s inspired this Instant Pot Ham & Bean Soup recipe.
For as long as I can remember, they would deliver a container of ham and bean soup to us after the holidays. Isn’t that the sweetest?!
They always host big family gatherings that typically include a delicious bone-in ham. The following week, his grandma or grandpa always make a HUGE batch of this thick and hearty soup.
Can I level with you?
I didn’t try this soup for years. Ryan was the only one who enjoyed it and I think he was all too happy to not have to share. 😉
But then everything changed…I finally tried the soup and I was HOOKED.
Next thing I knew, I was asking my own parents for the ham bone from Easter dinner. Ha!
The first time I experimented with this recipe, I made it in the slow cooker. It produced a wonderfully thick and rich soup that definitely reminded me of Ryan’s grandparent’s version.
Then it occurred to me to try making this in my pressure cooker.
Side note: I have a Cosori pressure cooker, not the almighty Instant Pot brand. I refer to the Cosori as an Instant Pot, which drives Ryan crazy. Mainly because our slow cooker is from the Instant Pot brand, but I call it a crock pot even though it has the infamous “Instant Pot” logo on the front. He loves to correct me EVERY TIME saying the crock pot is actually the Instant Pot. Ummm…no it’s not. lol
Ya, married life. It’s not for everyone. Ha!
But the fact that we squabble over the names of the pressure cooker and slow cooker cracks me up.
He’s my favorite though. #lovehim What can I say? 🙂
Whichever way you choose to cook this gluten-free soup, it will be divine. I do suggest serving it with bread or rolls, especially if it is the dead of winter.
There is nothing more cozy and comforting!
Though, if you are watching your figure, serve this with roasted broccoli or a side salad. Yum!
